We offer our clients unbeatable flexibility. SkyPix St. Louis typically recommends using our experienced pro aerial photographer, but we also welcome you to take pictures yourself — or bring your own photographer. SkyPix also provides helicopter services for professional photographers working on assignment.

Our Pilots

SkyPix pilots are safe, trained, and experienced.

Chief Pilot and SkyPix owner Charlie Duchek has over 20 years of experience in aerial photography, including flying for many of the best and most professional photographers and videographers in the world. He has flown videographers from organizations like PBS and photo-journalists from all over the country and Europe who sought him out specifically for their national or international projects. When you choose SkyPix, you’ve made the best choice possible in the St. Louis region for the aerial photo assignment you’re working on.

In addition to his commercial pilot license, Charlie is a licensed helicopter flight instructor (CFI) and Instrument Flight Instructor (CFII) with more than 5,000 hours of experience training new pilots how to fly. Plus, he’s also an FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic. Before starting SkyPix, he founded Midwest Helicopter in 1994. After 18 years in business, he sold the flight training operation to new ownership in early 2012. Charlie holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS degree in Engineering Management.

Our Photographers & Cameras

SkyPix works with the best aerial photographers in St. Louis

Our primary photographer is Steve Schulte, a St. Louis professional photographer who specializes in aerial photos. Steve has over 14 years of experience “behind the lens” and has provided photography services to many notable clients including Bombardier Aircraft, Sea Ray Yachts and Coca-Cola.

Additionally, SkyPix uses only professional digital SLR cameras, including the Canon 5D Mark III and Canon EOS 7D, combined with an assortment of high-end optical zoom lenses. Our camera equipment is capable of producing amazing aerial photos at up to 22.3 megapixels. At such high resolution, SkyPix aerial photos are ideal for enlarged / oversized printing.

To provide the highest quality images, SkyPix can also employ a Kenyon Labs KS-6 gyroscopic stabilizer. This professional device dampens the helicopter vibration to produce crisp aerial photos and videos.

Aerial Photography Rates

Our Clients have several options when retaining SkyPix’s helicopter services:
Option 1 The client can choose to have our Professional Photographer, Steve Schulte, shoot the pictures and / or video in our SkyPix R44 helicopter.
Option 2 The client can supply his / her own photographer and contract for SkyPix to supply the helicopter and pilot.
Option 3 If the client or his / her employee is proficient, that person can take the pictures or video themselves, having SkyPix supply the helicopter and pilot.

Charges for the Helicopter and Professional Photographer:

The cost for a custom aerial photo flight depends, primarily, on the distance between your location and our home base near Wildwood, MO. Helicopter flight time is billed per hour, in 0.1 hour increments. Because of the time and effort involved in planning and pre-flighting the helicopter for flight, there is a minimum charge for one half-hour of flight time.

The cost of photography services varies according to the scope of each photography or video flight. Photographer rates may vary based on whether you require retouching/editing services, copyright release or authorization, photo prints and other variables. Please contact SkyPix St. Louis to obtain a custom quote based on your photography and/or videography needs.

Charges for the Helicopter Alone:

Helicopter Services are billed at the rate of $395 per hour or fraction thereof. Billing is based on a “Hobbs hour-meter” in the helicopter that registers flight time based on hours and tenths-of-hours. Clients are billed for the helicopter services based on that hour-meter. For example, if a flight takes 1.1 hours at a rate of $395 per hour, the total charges would be 1.1 X $395, or $434.50, not including Missouri sales tax. Because of the time and effort involved in planning and pre-flighting the helicopter for flight, there is a minimum charge for one half-hour of flight time, even if the flight takes less than .5 hours.

Want to Accompany the Pilot & Photographer on your Photo Flight?

SkyPix operates a safe, reliable 4-seat helicopter. Unlike other aerial photographers in St. Louis who fly smaller 2-seat helicopters, our aircraft can accomodate the pilot and photographer, as well as up to 1-2 passengers (depending on weight and fuel load). This makes it possible for the client- or an employee or representative- to see their property from the air and make sure they get the best shots possible. The R44 helicopter is much faster and more comfortable than 2-seat models yet price-competitive with smaller and slower aircraft.
Clients have the option to join us “in the cockpit” at no extra charge to oversee and supervise the photography session.
Call SkyPix with any questions.
